The topic I
chose is abortion. The term the book uses is “stroking”. This relates to the
book because in the book when a mother gives birth to a child she doesn’t want
or can’t take care of she leaves it in front of someone’s doorsteps. By law the
baby is now that family’s problem, they are responsible for it well being. But
if the mother is caught stroking she must that the baby back. In real life an
abortion is getting rib of the baby before it is even born. Practically killing
it. It the book Conner tells of how he and his family got stroke once and
instead of keeping it they decided to stroke it. Then a couple of weeks later
the baby landed on their doorsteps again and ended up dead. They baby ended up
being rejected by the whole neighborhood and Conner starts thinking “if a baby was going to be so unloved, why
would God want it brought into the world?” This is just like what most mothers do in real life when they
get an abortion. When a child is unwanted they usually end up in foster homes.
When a child is without its birth parent it is not always because they didn’t
want it sometimes they stroke the baby or give it to a foster home because they
aren’t suited to take care of they baby. They figure the baby will have a
better life and be happier with another family that can afford taking care of
it. just like in the book there is a mother about to stroke here baby because “She
couldn't bear the thought of the baby suffering needlessly”. She strokes
the baby because she thought it was best for the baby. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion)
I find your topic interesting and I like how you compared abortion with the story stroking. I like how you pointed out the problem between the two topics and how both resemble in some way. And how in real life both of this do happen. It is sad how in both ways the mothers and the babies get effected but specially the babies, a poor defenseless baby.
